Marianne’s brother, Nicholas has come to the convent to take her to Beauxville, his estate in Scotland. She is miserable in her new home, and she’s receives quite a shock when Nicholas announces she is to be wed to Hamish Mac Glogan, an old Scottish man. Marianne refuses to be wed to a Scot. She only wants to marry a Norman, and she must find a way out of her brother’s arrangement.
Neighbors from Lochbarr come to the estate to warn Nicholas of cattle thieves. Adair Mac Taran, a very handsome Scot is among the men, and he is quite taken with the beautiful Marianne. That evening Marianne decides the only way out of her impending marriage is to run away from Beauxville. On her way out she has a surprise rendezvous with Adair, and they share a very hot kiss. Marianne denies that she is running away, and Adair is suspicious. Missing her chance to escape, Marrianne returns to her room.
Sensing Marianne is a damsel in distress, Adair returns to the castle to try and save her from a marriage with Hamish. She doesn’t want his help, and he puts her in a compromising position. Marianne has no choice but to escape Beauxville with Adair. Her own brother disowns her, and she has to go to Lochbarr with the arrogant Adair. What will happen now that Marianne’s reputation is ruined and she has no home? How will the people of Lochbarr accept a Norman into their village?
