This shows the sort of mess I make of a page. And if you look carefully, you'll see this then got completely changed -- in this version, Henry's keeping his run-in with Roald a secret. Later, I decided that Mathilde had to have a reason for not trusting men. She should have had a bad experience. Who with? What if it was...ROALD! Since I liked how that complicated the story, I wanted to keep that.

And I started to wonder why Henry would keep his previous experience with Roald a secret. After all, it makes him look good and Roald bad. But I don't want him bragging and once he gets to know Mathilde, he could be a little embarrassed, or less than keen, anyway, to have her hear what he was doing that fateful night. I decided that he lets Mathilde know that he hates Roald, but with a vague explanation. Since Mathilde hates Roald, she wouldn't need much of an explanation to believe that other people hate him, too.
